What's happening?Rainforest now cover only 6% of our earths surface. They are constantly being cleared to make room to produce more food for the growing population.
We are losing acres of rainforests all over the world everyday due to the clearing for cattle farming and the production of palm oil which is the most popular type of oil in the fast food industry. |
Palm Oil |
Palm oil is produced from the fruit in palm trees, they just knock down all the trees killing animals and habitats for endangered animals. Palm oil has a high demand in the fast food industry because it is addictive and cheap to produce. Since 2004 the Amazon's forest cover has declined by roughly 80% If this continues we will make endangered animals extinct and ruin important ecosystems.

Cattle |
The Amazon's rainforests have been destroyed over Brazil, Peru, Columbia, Bolivia, Venezuela, Suriname, Guyana and French Guiana. The cattle industry produces over 50% of the greenhouse gasses over the world every year, this 18% just in the Amazon. That is over 6,000 tonnes of carbon emissions produced every year.
